Job Description

In 2026, Network Rail is moving away from the traditional trade school model, offering high-impact programs that serve as a direct alternative to university. These roles aren’t just jobs; they are “safety-critical” positions where you are responsible for the infrastructure that keeps the UK moving. From day one, you are a permanent employee, meaning you earn a salary while mastering the specialized engineering or digital skills required for a lifelong career.

Positions Available

We are currently recruiting for two distinct pathways for our 2026 intakes:

1. Level 3 Rail Engineering Technician (3-Year Program)
Specialise in one of six critical disciplines: Track, Signalling, Overhead Lines, Electrification & Plant, Telecommunications, or Locking Fitter.
The Westwood Experience: Your journey begins with a 21-week residential stay at our Westwood training centre. We cover all your food and accommodation costs while you live and learn with your cohort.

2. Level 6 Digital & Tech Degree Apprenticeship (3–4 Year Program)
A high-level “earn while you learn” route into IT and Cyber Security. You will rotate every six months through departments like Cyber Security (protecting signaling systems), Data Analytics (predictive maintenance), and Network Engineering (fiber-optic maintenance).
