Summer Internship Programme (SIP) 2026
Scheme Overview
The Summer Internship Programme (SIP) offers talented undergraduates from lower socio-economic backgrounds the opportunity to experience a career in the Civil Service. This placement puts you inside a government department to gain insight into the diverse range of roles available at the heart of the UK Government.
The Fast Pass Advantage
Success on the SIP can change your career trajectory. If you receive a positive appraisal during your 2026 internship, you will be awarded a “Fast Pass.” This allows you to skip the initial online selection stages of the Fast Stream graduate scheme if you apply within 12 months.

- Policy & Research: Conducting research and assisting in the creation of policy documents.
- Strategic Support: Attending meetings with senior advisors and shadowing senior civil servants.
- Operations: Providing project support and collaborating with teams across different levels of responsibility.

- Online Tests: Complete the same initial assessments as the main Fast Stream applicants.
- Video Interview: Successful candidates will be interviewed between December 2025 and February 2026.
- Location: You can express up to three location preferences. Roles are offered in merit order.
- Note: Relocation costs and travel expenses are not provided.

Support & Benefits
- Mentorship: You will be assigned a Fast Stream “Buddy” and a Scheme Manager for guidance.
- Networking: Access to central events, skills workshops, and a corporate welcome reception in July.
